MBT Therapy

Mentalization-based therapy (MBT) is a form of psychotherapy that has demonstrated effectiveness in assisting individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) in managing their symptoms over an extended period. BPD is a complex mental health condition characterized by challenges in emotional regulation, impulse control, interpersonal relationships, and a fluctuating self-concept.

Although BPD was previously regarded as an untreatable condition, MBT, along with other evidence-based therapeutic approaches, has been shown to enhance interpersonal skills and decrease the frequency of self-harming behaviors and suicide attempts among those affected by BPD.

Understanding Mentalization

Individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) often find relationships challenging due to their tendency to misinterpret the intentions or statements of others. They commonly experience difficulties in recognizing, understanding, and processing both their own emotions and thoughts, as well as those of others.

In social interactions, these individuals may attempt to speculate on the feelings and motivations of others. However, a person with BPD often struggles to empathize with others and to distinguish their own emotional responses from those of the people around them.
